In trying to help my daughter with scheduling classes for her senior year at CROCKER H.S. next year, I have discovered the staff to be completely incompetent and strangely vindictive. Only juniors and seniors can go to vo-tech in the mornings, yet all the junior and senior classes such as English IV, Chemistry, etc... are only offered in the morning and are therefore not available to the students attending vo-tech. This is either the dumbest schedule in the history of High Schools or "Mrs. Stevenson" is simply being vindictive toward me at the expense of the students who attend Crocker. I have made numerous calls and out of the few that have been returned NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHY THESE CLASSES ARE NOT BEING OFFERED IN THE AFTERNOON TO BE FAIR TO THE VO-TECH STUDENTS.

I think because usually the focus of most VoTech students is the trade they are learning so therefore they don't need the Senior level classes, they already have all the credits they need in those areas. Those are college prep. classes. Crocker isn't like the bigger schools, they have a limited amount of teachers and can't offer the same class more than once. I had to take geometry at Waynesville summer school because I wanted to be in Jazz Band. I made the decision and it worked out. Maybe it isn't right that your daughter has to choose Votech or English IV but she does.

So why can't the English IV teacher or the Chemistry teacher give these classes in the afternoon as opposed to the morning when the kids who want them, or need them are back from vo-tech?  I could have drawn names from a hat and came up with a better schedule than they did. What Freshmen is going to take English IV ?

Its always been that way. If I were her I'd check into taking freshman level college classes on the school since they don't make it where everyone can take their senior level classes. Trust me I fought them and fought them and I was basically punished for my extra curriculars. I have heard things from other parents about the way things are run. Unfortunately it won't change unless the staff changes.

Good for you. I'm glad someone is standing up and demanding change. Plain and simple I think she's tired of her job. When she first started she was young and maybe didn't know how to change it or how to make things better, but now i think she just doesn't care. Karma to you Mark.

I've been told that to accommodate the vo-tech kids that have not met their requirements the beginning classes are in the afternoon and the good students who have met their requirements are out of luck.

Crocker is an A+ school, which means they will pay two years tuition but since your daughter attends Vo-Tech they are already paying for her and therefore the college classes are not an option. It isn't right that she doesn't have the option to attend these classes but it doesn't look like there is any other option.

Most kids coming back from vo-tech don't want to take the advanced classes so they are not being offered to the ones that do want them either?????

Wish I could help you Mark. I guess if you argued loud enough, to the state, they would have to do something, even if it was commuting her to Waynesville. When I was in school you could barely get the VoTech kids to pass English 2 so since that's the majority that's the attitude they've taken. It isn't fair for your daughter though. Have you talked to Mr. Bogle about it?

I talked to Mr. Bogle (and everyone else in the school) He's at least trying to help. He said she can take an online Chemistry course. He doesn't think they will be offering the advanced classes in the afternoon. O-Boy another group of barely educated children coming from Crocker next year.

I don't know about the problems with the high school students, but my son is a special needs child and the same person is in charge of him and we have had several encounters with her.  We have not been happy at all with the way our concerns have been handled or I guess not handled.  We have actually been told that my son is making up the stories he is telling us, which I find hard to believe since he is 4.  We have also gone above her to speak to other school representatives and have been told pretty much the same thing.  I can tell you we have notified the state to begin an investigation of our case.  Maybe there is someone at the state that can help you get your daughter the classes she needs to be taking.  We have learned there are a lot of state laws out there to help people with their school districts.

The kids get 3-4 days this week to adjust and turn in their schedules, (which they must do through her). Yesterday she had a doctors appt. and today an awards ceremony. I find this completely ridiculous. I have asked her many questions in the past and not once have I received an acceptable answer. Questions like when are the report cards coming out."when I get them mailed" When do we fill out the schedules for vo-tech "after map testing" When will the schedules be mailed to vo-tech "when I get them" Sounds like she also only took the very basic courses.

I said what is the date for the pell grant meeting and she said "Sometime in the spring" I have never got a straight answer from this lady. I could flip a coin and have better luck getting a specific date for any school activities. She seems to find this amusing. I DON'T. Then I pointed out to the principal that the online Chemistry  class they are suggesting for my daughter was also not on the schedule. His response: "We have never done it before, we will figure that out in the spring" I'm surprised they can even feed themselves.

I went to vo-tech and i was able to graduate with honors because i took an extra class between the time i got back from vo-tech & lunch so i did it independently. I know that there are not enough kids that go to votech for them to offer such a class in the afternoon. I know the more advanced math classes and some others were also in the morning..and i didnt go to crocker. I guess they think that because kids want to attend vo-tech that they arent going to college...wrong idea!

If  someone is taking any nursing courses at votech they will need to go to college following graduation, at the very least on-line, for pre-med.  Unless vo-tech in Crocker is different than vo-tech in Rolla.

The state of Mo offers online classes for rural schools who don't have enough students to offer the class.  The students take the class in the library or computer lab for that hour.  From what I understand the district must pay for the cost since they don't offer the course, this sounds like it may be an option for your child.  The program is called MoVIP, Missouri Virtual School, it can be found on Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education website
