  • Valor7: I could have worded that better, we talked details, options, the pros and cons of each, in  order to arrive at the best ballot language to present to the voters. Hope that makes this clearer.

  • Valor7: Yes and no. We talked details and options until we were blue in the face but I never heardbring it over, it was always the time was not right for the issue to pass. Glad to see the time in now right and I for one shall vote yes on the ballot. I would urge all others to do the sameour county is busting at the seams crimewise and no matter how many bad guys we send off there always seems to someone to replace them. The Sheriff's Office needs the help.

News Release Arrest in Shooting of Pulaski County Deputy Pulaski County Sheriff J. B. King June 27, 2008

During the afternoon of June 27, 2008, a Trooper assigned to the Troop I section of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control submitted a statement of probable cause to the Pulaski County Prosecutor requesting a charge of First Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer to answer of the June 10th shooting of Deputy Don Hayden.

A charge was filed and a warrant for First Degree Assault was issued for Rex A. Pennebaker, age 31, of 15798 Craig Lane, Dixon, Mo. Mr. Pennebaker was arrested at the University Hospital by members of the University Police Department and they are guarding him until custody can be turned over to a Pulaski County Deputy.  The bond in this case was set by Judge Colin Long at $1,000,000.00 cash only.

A Pulaski County Deputy is driving to Columbia at this time to take custody of Pennebaker and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department will begin a 24 hour a day guard detail on Pennebaker until he is released from the hospital.

Additional charges on Pennebaker are expected and news updates will be completed when possible.

That should be easy to do with all the man power JB has..

I was going to see if a couple of the four Deputies I have on medical leave could get rooms next to his......... but that did not work out.

I've been lurking for awhile reading all of the posts on this site.....
Reading this is sad.........I know the suspect(because i grew up in Dixon)
I knew both his parents and some of his grandparents.  Not that its an excuse
but if you look at this boys past and growing up life maybe we can understand
a little of where he came from........and I know some of you could care less.
This kid stood about as much chance as either of his parents did.....there raising
had alot to do with how they turned out, the choices they made and the things they did.
I am very sorry any of this happened and hope sincerely that Deputy Hayden is going
to recover from this and be alright.  Like I said I think its sad generation after generation
of families not knowing how to be productive members of society, or make the right choices.
Life is full of maybes and might have beens and should haves.....
I'm sure Rex will have lots of time to reflect on his decisions......which I believe to be wrong
so don't any of you get to thinking I stand behind him or what has happened.
I just think its such a sad situation.
Just wanted to post my two cents and hope everyone learns that maybe if we help kids when they are
kids we could prevent some of this in the future.
Today's kids will be raising tomarrows adults so we better do something.

Do we even have any power in Columbia?  Might be cheaper to pay their deputies to watch him til he can be moved here instead of all that gas and no deputes here to protect us.

Authority yes we do have that. Where is the money located in the budget needed to pay Deputies from other Departmentts to watch him?

I agree with you cat... it is sad. I also know him and lived in Dixon for several years. It is a mentality that goes from one generation to the next and is very unfortunate. It is hard to help people who don't want any help but it never hurts to try.
In the end we will not only remember the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends...

Give me back my gun and ccw and I'll watch him for free!

Well the world has changed a bit. Now that he is in custody, HIPPA is not quite as strict and surprise he was not hurt as badly as we were led to believe. Or in simple terms he will be released from the hospital tomorrow.

Well, good for the county, but what a load of crap from the hospital. I think the HIPPA laws are mostly stupid, with a few good things thrown in.
I have it on good authority that the Hokey-Pokey really IS what it's all about.
