SWEDEBORG, Mo. (March 14, 2011) — Superintendent Joe Dunlop told Swedeborg R-III School Board members at Monday night’s meeting that the district is doing somewhat better than expected with its finances, but cautioned that due to uncertainty in state funding, it’s unclear whether the district will be able to reintroduce programs such as summer school and preschool. “We’re all being conservative at this point, not knowing what the state is going to do,” Dunlop said. “They’re still wrangling around about the budget so we don’t know what is going to happen yet with discretionary spending in the budget.” Dunlop told board members that the month of February began with a balance of $92,975. The district received revenues of $139,846 and had expenses of $75,025, leading to an ending balance of $157,796. “Are we generally in positive cash flow?” asked board member Chris Black. “We’re better off than I thought we would be… we do have all of our deferment paid off to Richland. The only thing we owe anyone now is current tuition,” Dunlop said.
